Happy holidays! I’m sick so I haven’t been able to get as much work done on this website as I wanted, but there’s still time left. If I recover soon then there may be some updates. Despite feeling like crap though, it’s been a good Christmas! I got drunk with family and we all ate Itallian while sharing our worst hot takes with each other. I even got Dispatch so I’m looking forward to playing that.
Been low on energy lately, but I’m getting a small break for the holidays next week so get ready for some updates to this site! I’m hoping to flesh out the index page a bit more; add more sections to keep it from looking like every other page. Two of the sections I’m thinking about adding is a guestbook and drawbox. I like the idea of seeing new content whenever I return to my site.
In addition, I’ve recently bought the solo journaling TTRPG “Notorious,” and I’d like to create a website where I can document my character’s adventures as a sci-fi bounty hunter. When I used to play Star Wars: The Old Republic, I used to have this cyborg character that was like the “good” bounty hunter, who wasn’t in it for the money. He was only in it to be a cool guy who was nice to people. The character I’m creating for Notorious will NOT be a spritual successor to this character. I’m imagining a character that’s very cold and distant to those around him, likely due to some pain he’s faced in the past. The more he meets people in his travels though, the more he begins to open up, finding something to truly live for in the process. I tend to connect to cold, distant characters so I feel like I could write one well.
Solved the issue I was having yesterday with the help of a co-worker. Turns out, whoever on the team made the configuration file I copy and pasted into my environment did it wrong. I hope their pillow is hot and uncomfy tonight.
It sucks when the environment you’re configuring for your job STILL doesn’t work after troubleshooting it for hours, especially on a weekend where you aren’t being paid for it. I know I don’t technically need to troubleshoot it when I’m not getting paid for the work, but it’s bothering me because it’s been taking a good bit of time while I’m on the job to try to get it working. It makes me feel embarrassed and a lesser developer for not having it solved by now. At the same time, I feel like I’m at a dead-end where I’ll need to ask for help to continue because I’m getting the SAME error I was getting before I modified my environment. It’s all just to test a frontend on mobile too! It’s ridiculous! I can’t tell if I’m stupid or I’m missing something that I wouldn’t be able to figure out without asking someone who already has it working.
Sorry for the rant, it’s just really bothering me and I just want to enjoy the weekend. Maybe I just should, because in the past, I’ve guilted myself into working overtime and it burned me out quickly. I don’t know, I’m probably overthinking it.
For the 78 of you that have seen what this website used to look like, I’m sure it’s a bit of a change in aesthetic. After a small coding binge though, I’m super happy with how it came out! In the future, I’m hoping to give the home page a bit more personality and I really want to implement features that foster interactivity like a guestbook or drawbox. Also, I don’t like how the marquees in the background briefly end after a certain point, I need to get around to fixing that. Keep an eye out for that!
